Some favorite home remedies

I am sure all of us have favorite home remedies that help us stay in tip top health. I have a few favorites. I do try to eat healthy all the time, but even so I have problems now and then. Today my throat is getting a little sore.

My favorite home remedy for a mild sore throat is fresh pineapple. I imagine in a pinch canned would do, but the article I read in Prevention said fresh is best. The enzyme, bromelain, in pineapple always makes my throat feel better.

Sinuses are a real kicker as well. One thing that works well to keep sinus symptoms and allergies down is saline nasal spray. I guess since you purchase it, it is not necessarily a home remedy, but it is simple and non drug. Our family doctor even says it helps my husband not to have so many nose bleeds and he is right. He told hubby that he could use it up to ten times a day. If you do not have any nasal saline spray on hand, try eating horseradish sauce. What?! You cannot stand to eat horeseradish?? Actually, all you have to do to clear your sinuses is to inhale the fumes coming out of the jar.

Okay, one more for good measure. Ginger is a necessity around my house. Ginger helps quiet a cough, reduce inflammation, and settle an upset stomach. That is in addition to being a tasty addition to foods. We keep packages of candied ginger on hand. Natural healers know that it helps with arthritis pain when consumed regularly. If we have dry coughs at night it helps stop it right away. Oh, and I also recently discovered it is a good source of fiber.

The generations that came before us did not rely on pills nearly so much as we do. I think we would be wise to go back to some basics.
