Dry Eyes? Don't Use Visine or Murine

When you have dry eyes ( like me) the first thing you might want to do is reach for a over the counter regimen such as Murine or Visine. Unfortnately these products are the last thing you should reach for. These kind of products are decongestants and will shrink the eye's blood vessels, therefore only treating the redness--not the dryness itself.

Did you know you should moisten your eyes before and after you use a hot hair dryer? The heat is not only tough on your hair but your eyes as well. Use artificial tears with a preservative-free base. These include brands like Hypotears PF and others. Read the labels and it will tell you if they are preservative-free or not. Otherwise you will have other problems such as stinging of the eyes and if you wear contacts this will have a reverse reaction on your eyes. Pre-treat eyes to the kind that blur your vision at night only, otherwise you won't be able to see a thing.

Other things you can do to help dryness of the eyes are using a humidifier at work and at night. Dry air is a crucial culprit in making the eyes dry.

Skip the alcohol and the smoke. This is a no-brainer. Drinking can make your mouth feel dry therefore thats when you crave more to drink, so why not make your eyes dry too. It happens. Smoke is just an irritant to everything. Be kinder to your eyes by trying to minimize your use if you can quit altogether.
